Nakhimovskiy region of Sevastopol city was founded by the Decree of Presidium of the Supreme Soviet USSR from April 24, 1957 as a result of joining of the two regions - the North one (was located in the North side of city) and the Korabelniy one (was located in the Korabelnaya side of Sevastopol).
The total area of the region is 23300 hectares, including 10700 hectares of the rural area; this is the second-largest region of the city. The population of the region is about 110 thousand people.
About 1700 enterprises, institutions and organizations are situated in the Nakhimovskiy region. The biggest economy branches of the region are ship repair, viticulture and winemaking.
The biggest enterprise of Sevastopol, "The Sevastopol marine plant", is situated here, it has a complex of unique dry docks, among them is the biggest Black sea North dock, which can take the vessels of more than 50 thousand tons displacement.
The large state farms are located in the rural area of the Nakhimovskiy region, they specialise in grapes and fruits growing and processing, among them is the leader of the wine-growing branch, the state farm-plant "Kachinskiy+", which passed the way from a bankrupt to the most developing agricultural firm of Crimea for the years of Ukraine independence, and gathers the record harvests of the selected grape.
In the very heart of the region, not far from the city train station, the Sevastopol winery plant is situated, it is the producer of splendid champagne, which is widely exported to the countries of CIS and abroad, basically to the Western Europe.
The two large aerodromes - "Belbek" and "Kacha" are situated at the territory of the Nakhimovskiy region, they can land airplanes of any class.
In the North side, in the Holland bay, Sevastopol institute of nuclear energy and industry, the only one in Ukraine, is situated, it prepares specialists for atomic and heat power stations of the country. This institute was founded for the years of Ukraine independence on the base of the Naval engineering college, which trained personnel for the atomic undersea fleet of USSR.
In 2000, The Black sea Branch of the Moscow State University of M.V. Lomonosov was founded in the Korabelnaya side, where the citizens of all countries of the CIS can study both for free and for payment.
Many world-wide known monuments of military history are situated in the Nakhimovskiy region - the memorial complexes of the Malakhov's barrow, the Sapun-Hill, the Communal graveyard in the North side, where more than 150 thousand of our warriors were buried, who had died during the First and the Second Defences of Sevastopol, the victims of the catastrophes at the battleship "Novorossiysk", the atomic submarines "Komsomolets" and "Kursk". |


Nakhimovskiy district is situated in the north, northeast, and east parts of the city. Its north part borders with the Bakhchisaraiskiy region of the Autonomous republic of Crimea, the south and west parts border with the Leninskiy region of Sevastopol city.
